By Dr. Ben Yocom – Milan C-2 School District Superintendent

As of today, we have been ‘in session’ for seventeen (17) days!  Multiple stakeholders have reported that this year has been the smoothest start to a school year they can remember.  This is a credit to the positive efforts by a multitude of individuals!  For what it is worth – THANK YOU!  Thanks to – parents-guardians, community members, county/city officials, staff members and certainly the STUDENTS!  All of US play a role in the overall functionality of a school and WE (collectively) have had an OUTSTANDING start!

The annual Homecoming Festivities are scheduled for 9/26 and 9/27.  The inductees of the Milan C-2 Athletic Hall of Fame are the 1959 Milan High School Football Team.  They will be honored on Thursday, 9/26 during the annual PEP RALLY – the rally will begin at 7:00 p.m. and take place at Cal Hubbard Field.  The team will also serve as the Grand Marshals for the 2019 Homecoming Parade – this begins at 2 p.m. and school will release at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, 9/27/19.  The parade line up will take place in the alley/roadway between the High School and the Press Box/Concession Stand.  The team will then be honored during the game (at halftime) and specifically, will be asked to gather on the north end zone area of the field.  Please make plans to come out and enjoy this GREAT event for our COMMUNITY!  We will be playing the Putnam County Midgets and the game will ‘kickoff’ at 7 p.m.  The coronation will take place during the Pep Rally, but the Homecoming Court will be recognized before the game on Friday.  There will be a contest this year for businesses throughout the community to decorate their respective doors, windows and other locations.  If anyone has questions about anything related to the 2019 Homecoming Ceremony, please contact the Milan High School office or the Homecoming coordinator – Mrs. Ali McCully.

The annual Milan Softball tournament will take place on Saturday, 9/14/19 at the American Legion – Post #228 complex.  This year, there are six (6) teams and the games begin at 8 a.m. The teams are:  Brashear, Green City, Grundy County, Norborne, Novinger and our Milan Lady Cats!  The Championship Game (last game of the day) is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.  Feel free to come out and support our Lady Cats!

Please check the school’s website and other outlets for updates on the upcoming construction event.  In an effort to simplify the process, we have unofficially titled the process as – BETTER MC2 Project in 2020.  The alternative parking, bus lane and parent pickup/drop off plans began on Monday, 9/9/19.  So far, everything has gone GREAT!  Thanks again to everyone that is working to provide a smooth and solid transition!

Also, the Milan C-2 Elementary School is making a conscious effort to tell the great story of the students in our school!  Our students are the BEST STUDENTS anywhere!  I encourage anyone to follow @MC2Elementary to stay current on the multiple things within our school.  Our school is a dynamic institution that contains devoted staff and remarkable students!  We are so proud of all involved!

Throughout this month, as the temperature begins to change – please make sure that the students are dressed properly – plus, try to limit their time on electronic devices.  Balance is the key for any type of success and students need to strive for balance as well!

Please feel free to contact me any time with any questions or comments.  We are continually striving to improve in ALL facets!  I truly feel we are obligated to BE the VERY BEST we can be.  Our community deserves NOTHING less than an EXCELLENT school!  Thank you for your support and for making every day a GREAT DAY TO BE A MILAN WILDCAT
